Event Code of Conduct

Purpose

Our event is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event at the discretion of the event organizers.

Code of Conduct for our guests and staff

We want both our guests and staff to feel safe at our events. It is important to us that everyone who attends a Living Room event feels safe. We have therefore put together a code of conduct that applies both to our guests and staff. 

Expected behaviour

  • Be respectful and considerate: Treat everyone with respect, listen to others, and value their contributions.
  • Be inclusive: Make sure everyone feels welcome and included. This includes respecting diverse viewpoints and backgrounds.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow participants: Alert event staff if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.
  • Participate actively: Engage in discussions and activities, but do so in a way that is considerate to those around you.
  • Respect privacy: Ask for consent before photographing or recording individuals. Do not disclose others’ personal information without their permission.

Unacceptable behaviour

  • Harassment: Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
  • Discrimination: Discriminatory comments or behaviour towards others based on their gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or other personal characteristics.
  • Disruption: Sustained disruption of talks, presentations, or other parts of the event.
  • Invasion of privacy: Sharing personal information about others without their explicit permission.

Reporting

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the event staff immediately

Event staff can be identified by their official Living Room t-shirts with the word 'Host' clearly stated on the back.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. I

f a participant engages in unacceptable behaviour, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expelling them from the event without a refund, or by contacting local law enforcement.
